We’re Going to Alaska!

Our virtual Global Travelers club is embracing a rhythm of providing opportunities for our members to meet in person several times a year. We’re combining social time and service opportunities with travel to an interesting destination. Typically one or more members organize a “home town” event. Lenet Compton brought many of us to Kansas City in March. Colette Cody and Silvia Johnson are organizing an event in Hawaii in December.  And now, we’re excited about another opportunity — to visit Alaska with our fellow Global Travelers.

You can download a flyer about this Alaska event here.

To help us plan, please RSVP if you plan to attend (or are thinking about it). We’re not collecting any money yet.

Social & Service — May 22 – 24

Members Adam Hays and Jess Gutzwiler are working on an exciting three days centered around gorgeous Seward. Plus, we have options for a pre-social Alaskan cruise and a post-social excursion to Denali National Park (see below).

Here is the preliminary list of activities for May 22 – 24, 2026:

  • Volunteer opportunity at Alaska Sealife Center
  • Fabulous Alaska fish fry (fresh halibut?)
  • Visit with local Rotarians
  • 6 hour cruise of Kenai Fjords National Park
  • Hiking to the face of Exit Glacier
  • Transfer to Anchorage with visit to Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center.
  • Tram ride to top of Mt Alyeska

Estimated cost for 2 nights in Seward hotel and other activities is $1,250 / person (double occupancy).

Pre-Social Alaska Cruise — May 15 – 22

Member Mike Philson has organized a cruise from Vancouver B.C. to Seward, Alaska, departing May 15. The Royal Caribbean cruise visits, Sitka, Juneau, Skagway, and the Hubbard Glacier.

This is potentially a fund-raising opportunity for our club. If we fill 8 or more rooms, we will receive a contribution for our Global Travelers Foundation.

Learn more about the cruise and sign up here.
